A new exterior photo gallery offers views of the 2027 Rivian R2 Performance from multiple angles. The R2 sits below Rivian’s more expensive R1S and is positioned as a rival to the Tesla Model Y, according to Car and Driver.
The Performance model uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain rated at 656 horsepower and 609 pound-feet of torque. Car and Driver reports a 0-to-60-mph time of 3.5 seconds and an 11.4-second quarter-mile at 126 mph.
The publication also notes the R2’s practical interior and cargo capacity. Its boxy shape contributes to generous rear-seat headroom and legroom, and it fit 10 carry-on suitcases in the outlet’s test. The rear window can also roll down to accommodate longer items.
In handling tests, the R2 Performance recorded 0.81 g on the skidpad. Car and Driver says the taller ride height and compliant suspension result in some body roll in corners. Rivian’s EPA-rated range is 330 miles, while the vehicle covered 260 miles in the publication’s 75-mph highway test.
