Nissan’s Frontier Ronin is the latest concept prepared for the 2026 SEMA show. Based on the mid-size Frontier pickup, the heavily modified truck is intended to push the model’s powertrain and off-road capabilities toward the territory occupied by vehicles such as the Ford Ranger Raptor.
The Ronin retains the Frontier’s 3.8-liter V-6, but Nissan adds a rear-mounted twin-turbo system sourced from the R35-generation GT-R. The engine also receives custom air intakes, a custom front-mounted intercooler, and a NISMO Off Road exhaust with three-inch cutouts.
Nissan has not disclosed the concept’s output. However, the turbocharging system is expected to raise power substantially above the standard Frontier’s 310 horsepower.
Rather than focusing on slow-speed rock crawling, the Ronin’s hardware points toward desert running. Nissan fitted the truck with a modified version of the Titan’s rear axle and suspension, along with a Bilstein Black Hawk package featuring four-way adjustable coilovers and internal hydraulic bump stops.
The suspension setup also includes integrated rebound cut-off and individual high- and low-speed compression, rebound, and bypass damping adjustments. Custom CJD Racing long-travel components add four inches of lift, 12 inches of extra width, and 14 inches of suspension travel.
Prototype NISMO Ascend beadlock wheels and Yokohama Geolandar X-AT tires complete the build. Together, the upgrades give the Frontier Ronin the equipment Nissan says is needed for an “unstoppable off-road truck,” although the automaker has not provided final performance figures.
