Harley-Davidson is bringing back the Sprint name for 2027 with a new entry-level motorcycle aimed at riders seeking a more accessible and lightweight model in the United States. The Sprint 440 revives the single-cylinder formula associated with Harley-Davidson’s early motorcycles and Sprint models sold during the 1960s and 1970s.

Unlike those earlier Sprints, which were built in Italy, the U.S.-market Sprint 440 will be manufactured at Harley-Davidson’s facility in York, Pennsylvania. The motorcycle is technically related to the single-cylinder X440 developed with Indian manufacturer Hero MotoCorp, although the new model carries Harley-Davidson styling and branding.

Power comes from a 440cc, two-valve, air- and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine. Fuel injection replaces the carburetors used by the original Sprint, while output is rated at 27 horsepower and 28 pound-feet of torque. Power reaches the rear wheel through a slip-assist clutch and six-speed transmission.

The Sprint 440 uses 19-inch front and 17-inch rear cast-aluminum wheels, along with disc brakes equipped with ABS. Its claimed weight is 412 pounds, and the laden seat height is 26.4 inches. Suspension includes preload-adjustable dual rear shocks and inverted front forks, giving the motorcycle a modern hardware package alongside its retro-inspired name.

Equipment includes LED lighting, a 3.5-inch circular color TFT display and a USB-C charging port positioned above the headlight. The display includes the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meter, warning lights and turn-signal indicators. Harley-Davidson also plans to offer accessories such as a windshield, engine guard, saddlebags and alternative seat options.

U.S. pricing has not yet been announced. Harley-Davidson previously indicated that the Sprint 440 would cost approximately $6,000, while Canadian pricing is set at 8,499 Canadian dollars, equivalent to about $6,100 at current exchange rates. That would position it above a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 but close to Triumph’s 400cc models, and nearly $4,000 below Harley-Davidson’s current entry-level 975cc Nightster.

The 2027 Sprint 440 is expected to arrive in spring 2027.
