Twenty years after the original Q7 became Audi’s first SUV, the brand has launched a third generation of its large premium model. In Spain, it is currently offered with a 245 hp or 299 hp 3.0-liter V6 TDI, both using 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Audi says plug-in hybrid versions will follow, but has not yet provided further details.

The Q7 can be configured with five, six or seven seats. Luggage capacity is 670 liters in the five-seat layout and 581 liters with seven seats. Folding the rear seats electrically increases the available space to 2,075 liters in the five-seat version or 1,980 liters in the seven-seat model. The SUV measures 5.05 meters long, slightly less than its predecessor.

Among its new features are an illuminated grille and indicators that project orange arrows onto the road when the lights are on. Small projectors in the front and rear lighting units cast the arrows on the ground, adding to the conventional indicators. The Q7 also offers digital Matrix LED headlights and electrically operated doors, which stop opening if they detect an obstacle.

Inside, screens take center stage, with an optional display for the front passenger. Some key controls remain physical, while functions including the direction of the climate-control vents are managed through the central touchscreen. The review also notes improved cabin insulation and comfortable seating, though it says the materials and finish do not represent a significant step up from the previous Q7.

The tested car had the 299 hp diesel engine. It delivered its power smoothly and moved the large SUV with ease, according to the review, which reported typical consumption of around 8 to 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers. The mild-hybrid system can provide brief electric-only movement, such as during maneuvers or at low throttle in certain situations. Optional air suspension and four-wheel steering helped the tested vehicle feel composed and more agile than its size might suggest.

In Spain, prices start at €95,630 for the 245 hp version in Advanced trim and €98,500 for the 299 hp model. S line versions start at €101,330 and €104,200, respectively, while Black line models begin at €108,630 for the 245 hp car and €115,760 for the 299 hp version.
