The 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma is the brand’s first performance variant, delivering quick acceleration and playful features without giving up refinement. Based on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, it produces the same 641 horsepower but adds distinctive Magma details inside and out, including orange accents, suede upholstery and performance-focused displays.
The electric SUV reached 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 11.1 seconds at 126 mph. Its top speed is 166 mph. A Boost mode lasts 15 seconds, five seconds longer than the Ioniq 5 N’s, and the test found virtually no difference in acceleration when using the Magma’s simulated gear shifts. Its artificial engine sound imitates a high-revving V-6, with a selectable noise level that can make the cabin notably loud.
Despite its performance focus, the Magma impressed with a composed ride in GT mode and sharp steering. It recorded 0.97 g on the skidpad, slightly above the Ioniq 5 N’s 0.96 g. One drawback was a brake pedal that felt somewhat soft as regenerative braking blended with the conventional brakes.
The cabin brings Magma-specific touches such as front bucket seats, black suede with orange stitching and displays showing motor and battery temperatures. The seats were comfortable and supportive, though they lack lumbar adjustment. At highway speeds, wind noise was noticeable, and the cabin measured 70 decibels at 70 mph.
The Magma starts at $72,145, more than $10,000 above the Ioniq 5 N, but the review describes that price as relatively low among luxury-brand electric vehicles. Its EPA-estimated range is 222 miles, while it covered 200 miles in a 75-mph highway test. Rear passengers also have limited foot room and a low seating position that raises their knees. Genesis is offering the model through a limited number of dealers in New York, New Jersey and California.
